Over 1.9 million CDs as of last update June 23, 2009

Are you tired of waiting for a reissue of your favorite record on CD? Unfortunately, most recordings will never make it to CD. Through our network of record dealers, we can provide a great selection of vinyl records with custom professional CDRs. Or we can create CDRs from your own records. cdBBQ has been making happy music lovers for seven years. We guarantee your satisfaction!

As we source these records from dealers around the world, please allow 2-4 weeks for us to acquire record, convert to CDR, and send both to you (plus transit time to you).

The guiding principle on every transfer we do is to not distort the music in any way. There are automated methods of noise reduction but we have found that the only way to effectively *and* harmlessly improve the sound of vinyl is to invest some effort and tailor the method to the individual recording. We have thousands of happy customers since 2001, including many artists themselves. For example, Mr. Theodore Bikel described his custom CDRs from cdBBQ as "lovely."

We offer three levels of service in transferring your record to CDR: Professional, Silver and Gold. Our standard Professional service consists of the following steps:

  • When we receive your order, we will purchase your record from the appropriate dealer. Upon receipt, your record will be professionally cleaned.
  • Your record will be converted to digital format on audiophile equipment. We use Creek Audio class A phono preamplifiers exclusively. We have several different turntable/cartridge configurations: the setup used for your record will be determined by the vinyl format, type of music, year pressed, label and condition. We have a dedicated setup for 7" singles, and another for 78 rpm releases. For LP transfers, we have standardized on two amazing turntables (Music Hall MMF-5 and Technics SL-1200MK2) and our three favorite cartridges (Audio Technica AT-440MLa, Denon DL-160 and Shure M97xE). If you prefer that we use a particular turntable and/or cartridge for your order, please let us know. We will otherwise make our best selection based on our experience.
  • A sophisticated noise/hum reduction process will be performed. This Professional level process produces CDRs that sound fantastic!
  • The music will be divided into individual tracks, and recorded onto a Taiyo Yuden CDR (these are the best non-archival blank CDRs available). CD-Text is utilized to store song names on the CDR.
  • The artist/title and track listing will be printed in high resolution onto your CDR with Epson brand archival quality ink. The end result will resemble:

Our Silver Service can be added for $15 for 7" single conversion, $20 for 12" single conversion, or $25 for LP conversion. It adds the following features:

  • Additional noise and pop/click reduction methods will be utilized. The music will be processed to remove much of the noise, primarily loud clicks and pops, and surface noise in quiet passages and between tracks. We've experimented with the majority of the noise reduction programs on the market and have developed a protocol that provides excellent noise reduction, without damaging the music. We've processed thousands of records and have found ideal settings, fine tuned to the kind of music being processed, to remove as much noise as possible without any harm to the music.
  • The cover (in the case of LPs or singles with picture sleeves) or the labels (for singles without picture sleeves) will be scanned with our high resolution large format scanner and printed on the CDR. Also, we will print beautiful high resolution slim jewel case inserts on glossy photo paper. The end result will resemble:

Our Gold Service can be added for $30 for 7" single conversion, $40 for 12" single conversion, or $50 for LP conversion. It adds the following features:

  • Advanced noise reduction techniques are applied. We've taken some records that were unbearable to listen to because of the noise, and produced CDRs that sounded very nice. Several steps are added in the advanced noise reduction process, including manually searching the music files for any impulses (clicks/pops) and removing them carefully and individually. We also use an advanced algorithm that splits the music files into components and applies noise reduction to each component separately, then combines them into a single music file again. This allows a significant drop in the noise floor without distorting or thinning out the sound.
  • Your music will be put onto a Mitsui MAM-A 24K gold plated 300 year archival CDR. These are widely regarded as the finest blank CDRs on the market.

These CDRs function in every way like a commercially made CD. You can play them in any CD player, and you can rip them to your iPod. Please note that some older DVD players will not play CDR media. If you intend to play these on a DVD player, please doublecheck your DVD player manual first.

Please rest assured that, while this website has a simple no-frills design, it features a powerful search engine and is entirely secure. We use SSL and other encryption techniques to ensure the safety of your sensitive information.
